Find and Keep Good Employees
by Janet Attard
Are you having trouble finding and keeping good employees because your small company can't match the salaries and benefits offered by bigger businesses in your area?
If you can structure jobs so that work schedules are flexible, and/or jobs are shared, you may find the employees you need among the stay-at-home parents and/or seniors in the community surrounding your office.
Stay-at-home moms (or dads) are often skilled individuals who are willing to work for less than top dollar if they can work close to home and arrange their hours around the family schedule or demands. The extra money, chance to do meaningful work outside the home, and a flexible schedule that allows men and women to balance work and family, can help you build a loyal, dedicated staff. If you need to fill a position eight hours a day, try teaming a parent who wants to work mornings with a part-time senior worker who can work in the afternoons.
